This project facilitated the design and event planning for the 2011 Inaugural Yuri’s Night DC party and 50th Anniversary of Human Spaceflight. Travis Senor, Tim Bailey, Dennis Bonilla and I teamed up to plan, promote, and host the 2011 party. The event took place on April 12th, 2011 at Science Club in Washington, DC.
On a very tight timeline, I designed the event poster and we used it for various marketing/digital media campaigns. We uploaded the poster to Imgur and managed to get over 3000 views. We also printed 11″x17″ versions of the poster that were handed out as swag at the event.
In addition, I manipulated the poster design to create t-shirts for the event. We sold shirts on site, through eventbite, and the Science Club bar staff wore them to help solidify the branding.
Yuri’s Night is a global celebration of humanity’s past, present, and future in space. Yuri’s Night parties and events are held around the world every April in commemoration of April 12, 1961, the day of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin’s first manned spaceflight, and April 12, 1981, the inaugural launch of NASA’s Space Shuttle.
Yuri’s Night events combine space-themed partying with education and outreach. These events can range from an all-night mix of techno and technology at a NASA Center, to a movie showing and stargazing at your local college, to a gathering of friends at a bar or barbecue…
